Cricket: surprisingly fun

Last night, despite serious threats of rain and mean parking attendants, we made out to a cricket match in Cape Town.

Cricket as a sport is well known for it’s week-long matches chalk full of catnaps and tea times. However, this was an Indian Premier League game with special rules that limits the game to about 3 or 4 hours.

I’ll refrain from explaining the game of cricket in detail because it would take forever, but it’s basically baseball’s cousin. They share a lot of similarities across the board.

Last night’s game ended in a 150-150 run tie, something that is virtually unheard of in the sport. The game had to go to overtime (“super over”) to settle the match between the Calcutta Knight Riders and the Rajasthan Royals. Out came the victors, my (arbitrary) team, the Royals.

Though the game was fun, the best part was getting to enjoy the scenery the stadium had to offer:

With Table Mountain emerging from the clouds and the sun setting behind it, it was a backdrop that is hard to beat.
