On a whim today, Tom, Dave and I decided to hike one of the mountains surrounding Stellenbosch. Remember this one?

It was pretty steep with a fairly sandy surface, making the climb pretty grueling. Also, large swaths of the mountain had been burnt in a fire from the summer.

As a result, all of the underbrush is charred and leaves a pleasant black stripe on you as you brush past.
But, we were rewarded with some incredible views from the top.
You could see the Indian Ocean

and Table Mountain and the Atlantic

(Ok, you can’t really see the ocean well in this picture, but I swear it’s there. To the right of Table Mountain…promise)
So we hung out on the summit for a bit and watched the sun set over Stellenbosch as we trekked down.
