Things I learned from wine tasting today:
1. Sauvignon Blancs are well known for their garden vegetable notes, commonly green pepper, and hints of cut grass.
2. Cabernet Sauvignons are robust and full-bodied with a lot of tannins. They pair nicely with red meat.
3. Pinotages aged in wood-fired oak barrels can assume strong notes of mocha from the smoke in the wood of the barrel.
4. Dessert wines taste like a not-so-distant cousin of corn syrup. They are disgusting.
5. Brandy is the same thing as cognac. They are made from the same grapes, use the same distilling process and are both equally horrifying.
We did wine tasting at 3 wine estates and a tour at one of them today. Wine is definitely not my strong suit, but it’s fun trying to work on tasting for different subtleties.
From what I can tell, the wine here seems to be top notch. But frankly, I’m making that claim with no real authority.
